Isshin Ryu means "One Heart Way" and Karate means
Isshin Ryu Karate was developed by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku in Okinawa, Japan. It was brought over to the United States in 1952. Isshin Ryu Karate was comprised of 2 empty hand styles Gojo Ryu Karate under Master Chojun Miyagi and Shorin Ryu Karate under Master Chotoku Kyan. He also added Kobudo, a weapons component to the style under the teachings of Taira Shinken. In May of 1975, Master Shimabuku passed away and left his teachings and style to his son-in-law and #1 student, Angi Uezu who is our present master.
