Taylor Haug is listed at 5’7”. He is the shortest player on the Brockport Basketball team. But it doesn’t matter, chances are he’s tougher than most because of the mental and physical strength he has honed since the age of three.
Taylor Haug said, “My parents both work two jobs. Knowing they can tackle the work load, if they can do it, I can do it.”
It's that discipline and focus that makes Taylor Haug tick. The Brockport senior has a 94 average and takes four AP courses. His parents are the owners of the S & S Fitness and Martial Arts Center in Hamlin. That's where Taylor received his first degree black belt at the age of 10.
Haug said, “Getting your black belt at 10 is something you don't think about it. Having that hard work, I started at three, going from three to 10. It was a lot of commitment; I bring the commitment to school and sports.”
Taylor's captains back that sentiment. He is the leader of the Blue Devils Basketball team and play second base for the baseball team. Taylor will play baseball for Erie Community College next year.
Haug said, “It's something I have been dreaming about, being the shortstop behind Derek Jeter on the Yankees. So knowing that I’m moving on and onto the majors, it's a big dream come true.”
Taylor also volunteers at a youth camp in the summer and teaches children martial arts. He wants to become a physical trainer.
